Arthur's Pass Village

Arthur's Pass Village, July 22nd 2015

Arthur's Pass is a key link between east and west coast and for centuries has been so. The simplest way to put it is that it was gold on the west coast that initiated Arthur's Pass. You can read about the history on Arthur's Pass website. People needed a passage to get that gold. Arthur Dobson and his farther eventually created one. Then people needed a place to rest on the way. A town was settled. People got enhanced by the stunning beauty of the surrounding Southern Alps. Word reached travelers. In 1929 Arthur's Pass became the first national park on South Island.

Some of those cottages and the used-to-be the workers hut still remain today.
